Basic of Surgery

The Basics of Surgery course is a set of materials to prepare you for the OpenDoors Olympiad. In this course we have tried to introduce you to the basic concepts in surgery. The structure of the course includes a section on the surgical anatomy of the abdomen, aimed at providing students with an understanding of human anatomy from a surgeon's perspective. The second part focuses on a major syndrome in general surgery, the acute abdominal syndrome, which develops the clinical thinking of the surgeon. Part three focuses on a selected case of surgical pathology - mechanical jaundice - and aims to demonstrate the clinical application of the knowledge gained in the first two parts.

The sequence of videos is divided into 3 sections as the surgical clinical thinking progresses.  Each video has a set of learning tasks.  After each section there is a quiz covering the whole section so that you can test your knowledge.

We hope that these videos will help you better understand the medical field of surgery and inspire you to pursue further study and research.
